AIM sniffer: What is Aim Sniffer Spyware?

AIM sniffer is commercial monitoring software. It can be put on the computer with or without the consent of the computer user. When it is deftly installed it is dragged under the category of malicious spyware.
AIIM sniffer saves all the instant messages and the e-mail sent from/to the computer user. The spyware can give a live report of the activities of the user or a file reporting every activity happening in AOL or MSN messenger to the attacking party who installed the spyware on the computer. This software is created by Effe Tech Sniffer. It poses a threat of 4 on a scale of 10 because it harangues privacy rights and can cause social problems if the spying party is known.

To detect whether AIM sniffer is on your PC or not, you can download a spyware detector specific for AIM sniffer, you’ll find a plethora of such programs. If AIM sniffer is detected then you have to remove it either through a spyware removing software, which I do not really prefer because you can’t guarantee the effectiveness of the software or you can remove it manually as follows: First, delete the following directories (to find the files Start> Search> My computer> “file name”):

%commonprogramsdir%\AIM Sniffer.

Then, delete the following files:
UNWISE.EXE, WinPcap.exe, topbk.jpg, %programfilesdir%\AimSniffer\AimSniffer.exe,  %programfilesdir%\AimSniffer\aimsniffer.gif,  bottombk.jpg, %programfilesdir%\AimSniffer\eula.txt, %programfilesdir%\AimSniffer\help.htm, %programfilesdir%\AimSniffer\main.gif, %programfilesdir%\AimSniffer\readme.txt, %programfilesdir%\AimSniffer\style.css, %programfilesdir%\AimSniffer\INSTALL.LOG, AIM Sniffer.lnk, %commonprogramsdir%\AIM Sniffer\UNWISE.EXE.lnk, %commondesktopdirectorydir%\AIM SNIFFER.LNK
The last step is deleting the registry key AIM sniffer created on your file: AIM SNIFFER V1.1 EVALUATION VERSION.
